Municipal Credit Union Appoints New Regional Director of Retail Branches

February 2025 – Smith & Wilkinson partnered with Municipal Credit Union to find a Regional Director of Retail Branches. This innovative credit union was seeking a candidate to lead a portion of its retail network and ensure an excellent service experience for members.

This search led us to Shardenay Palmer, who has over 15 years of retail banking experience specializing in the New York City market. Known for her collaborative leadership style, Ms. Palmer is a hands-on sales coach with a proven track record of increasing sales while improving customer satisfaction.

Municipal Credit Union has been serving the financial needs of its members since 1916. The credit union was chartered in response to the concerns of New York City Mayor John Purroy Mitchel, who wanted city employees to have a way to save at reasonable rates and access low-cost borrowing alternatives. MCU started with one branch in the Municipal Building, using handwritten ledgers. At the end of the first year, nineteen charter account holders had combined deposits of $570.

Today, MCU has 16 branches, over 630,000 members, and $4.7 billion in assets. Its corporate mission is to build lifelong, quality financial relationships with each member by providing competitive products and excellent service.
