Tompkins Financial Selects Phil Quintana as President of Tompkins Community Bank

February 2025 – As part of a planned leadership transition, Smith & Wilkinson was retained by Tompkins Financial (NYSE: TMP) to manage the executive search and selection process for the President of Tompkins Community Bank.

The President of Tompkins Community Bank reports to the President & CEO of Tompkins Financial Corporation, and as the leader of the banking business, serves as a key member of executive leadership, helping to continue the bank’s growth, innovation, and community impact. The role includes the oversight and leadership of four Market Presidents and key business line leaders. The primary responsibilities of this public company executive leadership role include strategic, operational, and financial oversight of the Community Bank, leadership and development of a high-performance culture, and community and market engagement.

The bank sought a dynamic and visionary executive to lead the mission-driven community banking business with its deep local ties and a reputation as a top-performing regional financial institution.  In collaboration with Tompkins leadership, S&W executed an executive search and interviewing process focused on candidates in public bank leadership roles with an emphasis on identifying candidates with strong expertise in commercial banking, credit and risk management, regulatory compliance, financial operations, and a proven track record of driving a high-performance culture and market growth.  The engagement culminated in the selection of Phil Quintana.  An industry veteran with almost 30 years of public bank experience, Quintana most recently served as Regional President for Virginia-based Burke and Herbert Bank, overseeing the bank’s northern Virginia, DC, Maryland, and Delaware markets.  His career has included both Retail and Commercial leadership roles across a variety of market areas, including Florida, Texas, and the Mid-Atlantic.  Quintana received both his MBA and BA in Finance from Dowling College in Oakdale, New York.

The Tompkins Community Bank President executive search was managed by Cameron Boyd, Managing Partner, Financial Services.
