North Shore Bank selects Joseph Schueller, CPA as Chief Financial Officer

Due to the planned retirement of its longtime Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) George Sophinos, North Shore Bank (“NSB”) selected S&W to manage the CFO search and selection process. Headquartered in Peabody, Massachusetts, NSB is an approximately $1.6B mutual bank that is today the combination of 4 northeastern Massachusetts-based community banks that over the past 8 years came together to create a financial institution with the scale and resources to continue to meet the evolving needs of its customer base. Today, the bank is a modern, mutually chartered community bank with roots in the communities that it serves that go back over 130 years.

Following an exhaustive search and interview process of greater Boston and eastern Massachusetts finance and accounting professionals, NSB selected Joe Schueller, CPA, as its next CFO. A native of Minnesota, Mr. Schueller received his BS from the University of Minnesota and spent the first 11 years of his career in the Financial Services practice of PwC. Upon relocating to Massachusetts, he held senior finance and accounting roles with State Street, Admirals Bank, and Santander. Most recently, Mr. Schueller served as SVP, Chief Financial Officer for Hills, IA-based Hills Bancorp./Hills Bank & Trust, a $4B publicly traded community bank. He and his family reside in Middleton, MA.

“Given the success of North Shore Bank over the past handful of years of combining like-minded mutual banks under the brand of a strong and exceptionally well-led community bank, this particular CFO search attracted a lot of attention from talented bankers both locally and from farther afield. We were fortunate to be able to consider a number of sitting CFOs, as well as some very talented up-and-coming accounting professionals who aspired to the role. Ultimately, while Joe’s top notch technical skills were clear from the beginning, it was his leadership skills and cultural fit that won out in the end.” Cameron Boyd, Managing Partner, Financial Services.
