Summary of 2015 Charitable Giving

At Smith & Wilkinson, our mission is to enable our clients and candidates to grow professionally – but we also strive to foster growth within our community. For 2015, Smith & Wilkinson donated over $31,000 to nonprofit organizations here in the New England region.

Barbara Bush Children’s’ Hospital: $10,000

Maine’s only full service children’s hospital provides advanced specialty services and state-of-the-art technology to Maine children and their families, including the Maine Children’s Cancer Program and the state’s largest NICU. BBCH, located at Maine Medical Center, has been rated the fourth safest hospital in the world; Smith & Wilkinson is proud to have supported the essential life-saving work done by this unique healthcare facility with a donation of $10,000. RettSyndrome.org: $1,500

Smith & Wilkinson was pleased to participate in a charity golf tournament, Rip It for Rett, in support of RettSyndrome.Org, an organization dedicated to research, family empowerment, and community advocacy for those diagnosed with Rett Syndrome and their families. Rett Syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder seen mainly in girls; research suggests that Rett syndrome occurs in one out of every 10,000-15,000 girls born in the United States. Smith & Wilkinson is proud to support this organization and admires the strength and resiliency of the Rett Syndrome community. Alzheimer’s Association of Maine: $1,500

The Maine chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is one of more than 70 chapters across the country. There are approximately 37,000 families in Maine who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia; the Alzheimer’s Association works to support research, support families, and reduce the risk of developing this disease. Smith & Wilkinson is grateful for the opportunity to help in the Alzheimer’s Association’s mission to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease. Camp Sunshine: $4,000

Camp Sunshine provides a unique experience to Maine children living with life-threatening illnesses and their families. Part summer camp, part respite care, Camp Sunshine provides hope and support to all members of the family. Since its establishment in 1984, Camp Sunshine has provided retreats for over 43,500 individuals whose lives are affected by serious illness. Make-A-Wish Maine: $7,000

The Maine chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted wishes to over 1000 Maine children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions. On average, a wish is granted to a Maine child every five days. The impact of these wishes on Maine families cannot be understated. Smith & Wilkinson is fortunate to be able to support this organization and is proud to have sponsored a wish through the “Adopt-A-Wish” program to help make wishes come true for Maine children. Camp Celiac: $2,000

Camp Celiac is a unique organization providing a completely gluten-free summer camp experience to children and teens diagnosed with celiac disease. Camp provides a respite from constant diet monitoring and allows young people at Camp Celiac the chance to enjoy freedom from constantly scrutiny of their food choices. Camp Celiac welcomes children from all across the US and from many foreign countries as well. Smith & Wilkinson is proud to sponsor this organization and help to expand their programming. United Way of Greater Portland: $1,500

United Way of Greater Portland, one of ten United Way branches located in Maine, provides funding to various nonprofit organizations throughout southern Maine in order to enrich the communities they serve. Focused on the fundamental issues of education, financial stability, and health, United Way of Greater Portland also is an advocate for underserved and underprivileged populations in Maine and works closely with service providers to identify and target specific groups of people and agencies in need. United Way is committed to bringing awareness of important issues to southern Maine residents and Smith & Wilkinson is proud to support these efforts. Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine: $1,000

The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine’s mission is to inspire discovery and imagination through exploration and play for Maine children. With a focus on education and cultural enrichment, the Children’s Museum serves as a valuable resource for families and educators, helping to create a broad community dedicated to development and learning. Founded in 1976, the Children’s Museum serves young people between the ages of six months to ten years, and has won multiple awards for their creative and enriching exhibits. Smith & Wilkinson is delighted to support this inspired organization in their work to enhance the experience of Maine’s children through learning and play.
